After a huge crocodile was spotted on the streets of Bangalore, a few weeks ago, the city woke up this week to anacondas, garbage strewn around the city and a man falling into a pothole! A part of an awareness program by Namma Bengaluru Foundation, the aim of these installations is to create awareness before the city’s municipal elections. “The city is riddled with problems. We have chosen four themes – garbage, lake water restoration, water logging and potholes – to address. We hope that the shock value will help in making people aware and help them make a right decision before the election,” shares Usha Dhanaraj, project manager at Namma Bengaluru Foundation.
The anaconda installation at Yeshwantpur aims to catch the attention of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagar Palike to get potholes repaired.
Earlier this week, the NGO had taken over Katriguppe, where they made an installation of a man falling into a manhole. “Luckily that morning it was raining too, so we were successful is driving across our message,” says Usha. Another project that aimed to talk about garbage segregation had the NGO throw garbage bags in large parts of the city. “We made sure there was an awful stench coming from the garbage bags. We had a lot of people stop their cars and come inquire about the garbage dump in the city. People were educated about garbage segregation using the shock value factor,” adds Usha.
The project will conclude with another installation this Sunday at Bellandur , that will address the issue of lake water restoration.
