Why The Chaar Bacche Formula Makes No Sense in India

If I could pinpoint the root cause of most problems in India, it would be the high population. The reason most people are unemployed, sick, poor, illiterate etc. is because the number of Indian residents is very high. The opportunities, resources, facilities and attention given to individual life is insignificant due to the population.

Poor families in rural India with a large number of children cannot afford to give them the best standard of living. Their education, upbringing and morale is affected. There is a lack of attention given to each child when there are too many kids. Parents too do not have the ability to take care of four or five children as they are trying to make a living for them. These circumstances lead to a higher crime rate too. In these conditions, Sakshi Maharaj telling Hindus to have more children is the most ludicrous advice he could give.

It is quite expected that a man should say this. Indian men are not known to do their fair share of work in bringing up children. Do they have to go into labour, wake up to feed the babies at night, take care of their food, emotional needs and other tantrums? Women have such poor treatment in India as it is and now this man tells women how to use their uteruses! What arrogance! Who gave him the right to tell women how many kids to have? Will he provide money for their upbringing, education, clothes, food and other needs? Does he know the consequences of his words? It is quite appalling that these men form the government of our country. Is there any bright future for us at all? I think not.

Sakshi Maharaj also seems to think that India belongs to Hindus only. Let’s just kick out all the other religions and tribes, shall we? Instead of teaching his followers that all religions should be treated with the same respect and everyone is a human at the end of the day (as the constitution of our country is secular), this man is trying to create a greater divide.

This is what happens when uneducated people are allowed to enter politics and other positions of power. How can a country with so many highly qualified and educated professionals as its citizens have such illiterate, narrow-minded religious extremists as their government leaders?

As a feminist, I am completely offended by this man’s words. He has no right to tell me how many (if any) kids to have. Are women only there to produce as many children as her husband or Sakshi Maharaj asks? Does she have no say over what she wants?

Instead of telling women to get a good education and focus on having fulfilling careers, our political leaders tell us to have children so that a particular religion benefits. Our government seems to be making a solid effort into taking us backwards rather than forward.
