When we talk about rights for women, children, men and everything else, there is one section of the community, which we completely ignore, the differently abled people. They are as human and sane like us. But it’s disheartening to see how the country has been insensitive towards them and this indifference costs them a lot to survive in a country like ours. Let’s face it, our country and cities are definitely not easily accessible for them. Even things which are specially built for them are being used by others.
We all know about a special handicap compartment in the local trains. But we only see youngsters and other public using that compartment for a comfortable ride. How many times have seen a specially designed menu for those who are not sighted. Even public places don’t have accessibility points for them.
The unfortunate bit is that there are no special initiatives by the government. In fact, be it any budget or law-making process in our country, they are often ignored. Hopefully, this video featuring these differently abled people will sensitise us and help us understand their needs better. If you think India too should start working towards making the country accessible, do not forget to share.
