The New York Fashion Week (NYFW) in September 2015 will not only see tall and skinny models, but also inspiring women of strength, like Jillian Mercado.
At first glimpse, you probably wouldn’t be able to guess that this 28-year-old is suffering from Degenerative Muscular Dystrophy.
Jillian has appeared for campaigns by Diesel and ads for Nordstrom, along with multiple magazine shoots, which brought her in the spotlight. But that’s not why we are talking about this wonder woman.
Jillian has now signed up with IMG Models (a coveted modelling agency, which represents models like Joan Smalls, Karlie Kloss, and Kate Moss), where she will have more opportunities pouring in, especially ahead of the New York Fashion Week.
Jillian’s condition isn’t temporary. In fact the wheelchair-confined model developed this illness, which results in loss of muscle mass and weakness, as a child.
But that didn’t stop the model from loving her body or accomplishing high career goals. Despite her health condition, Jillian loves her body. Her zest for life is truly motivational. The way this upcoming model has broken every stereotype associated with this profession, it is inspiring and we are having a major girl crush on her.
Here’s a video that has Jillian talk about loving her body:
