‘Hey why are you always so down; you got to be happy sometimes.’ This is perhaps a question we’ve often asked people who seemed depressed. How can someone constantly be unhappy, sad or angry? Doesn’t a surprise package in the mail, a salary bonus, an ice-cream on a hot summer night make them happy? Not even for a second?

Depression is a condition that is hard to explain. Unless you feel it yourself, your mind fails to understand how someone can constantly be so dissatisfied, to the point where they want to end their seemingly normal lives? And you are not wrong, if you haven’t experienced the bottomless pit, you can’t really understand why.

This video, Cuts That Spell by Richard Garrick does a brilliant job of expressing what goes on in the mind of a depressed person. Using the medium of dance, the video has a beautiful voice over that explains the struggle going on in their heads. “The feeling of pain that you get when someone sticks a knife in you or better yet ten. But you don’t see it because it’s on the inside.”

Put on those headphones and spare a few minutes to watch this beautiful and sensitive video.
