So to help you revamp your space and get it ready for the festive season, we got our décor experts to create five fabulous mood boards that you’re bound to love. Go on and give your home a makeover with these awesome Diwali decor ideas.

Lights, Mirrors, Drama!

“Diwali is the perfect time to brighten up your home and bring in that cheerful vibe. Add mirrors to open up and brighten your space, as light and colour are reflected in them,” says Aarti Aggarwal, Creative Head, Knock on Wood (KNW).

Get the look:

  • Wall murals are all the rage. So use wood or any other material to create a mural that adds texture to your wall.

  • Add a table near the foyer to instantly make your home look more inviting. Use this space to set up a pretty flower arrangement or just decorate it with scented candles for that festive feel.

  • Bright lights are a must for the season. Chandeliers add that extra glamour to the room, but if you are not keen on that, stick to mood lighting to liven up a dead corner or create some drama.

Colour Cocktail

“A beautifully decorated home is all about putting together the right colour palette,” says Rajat Sanghi, Interior Designer, Address Home. “Let colours take centrestage as they add dimension and visual interest to your space.”

Get the look:

  • Pick bright hues like teal, red, fuschia and orange to accentuate specific corners of your home. Then add grey and neutral accessories to balance the look.

  • A few well-placed cushions can add a pop of colour to the space, and won’t break your bank. Scatter floor pillows and throw cushions in different sizes around the room, but stick to the colour palette.

  • Add hints of metallic with brass, silver or copper tea lights/ vases/ photo frames and candle holders to give your living space that X-factor.

Flavours of India

“If you’ve always loved Indian handicrafts but never understood how to bring them into your home, the time is now. Let a handicraft be a statement piece and anchor your space,” says Shagufta Anurag, Chief Design Evangelist, LifeSpace.com.

Get the look:

  • Choose the classic Ikat print for your new upholstery or adorn your wall with a black and white Madhubani painting for a modern-meets-traditional look. Use cushion covers with beautiful kutchi patchwork or introduce pieces with exquisite inlay work to give extra oomph to your space this Diwali!

  • Warm metals like brass and copper have been trending the world over for several seasons. Bring in that traditional flavour with intricate artifacts from the city of Moradabad; for a contemporary vibe opt for smooth and bold pieces.

  • Add a chandelier, standing lamp or just plain and simple party lights for that instant festive glow. You could also make a focal point with floating candles, fresh flower petals, and a touch of loose glitter in a large shallow pot.

Festive Fusion

“Indian festivals are known for bright colours, glitter and an overall emphasised ambience. When seamlessly blended into the décor, these make for the perfect festive look,” says Nirav Meswani, Director Surprise Home Linen. “Team bold colours with gold highlights for that never-fail festive charm.”

Get the look:

  • A bright-coloured rug or carpet in the hallway can make a striking first impression. Rugs and dhurries with bright borders are also a good option and if not, an old saree border can easily be attached to an existing rug to give it that festive look.

  • Rich jewel tones are an easy route to a festive décor makeover. You can also try bright fuchsia, lime green, orange, vermillion, bright cobalt and of course metallic accents of gold, bronze and silver.

  • Place an accent upholstered furniture piece embellished with traditional motifs or embroidery in the living room, and use large shams and ornate bed covers for your bedroom.

A Royal Affair

“International themes like Moroccan and Bohemian blended with Mughal references help give your space a royal festive feel,” says Interior Designer Shantanu Garg.

Get the look:

  • Try using the colour blocking trend with your upholstery, screen printed Mughal cushions as well as curtains or rugs. Shades of hot pink, royal blue and turquoise act as an accessory themselves.

  • It is the most appropriate time to beautify the space with traditional Indian décor accents like Meenakari, Theekri or mirror work, fresco paintings, metal filigree, traditional paintings like bani thani, Indian miniature etc.

  • A cluster of multiple brass frames hung from ceiling with pink velvet covered string is a unique way of approaching frames as decoratives.
