Society has always defined women with stereotypes. You talk to boys, you are promiscuous. You wear short skirts, you’re a slut. So no surprises here. Quite frankly, we’re used to the stereotypes because we get them from everyone – parents, husbands, neighbours, everyone. Well, now we even have them from rapists. According to the latest Bad Girl poster, women who go to work, talk in English and go out with boys are asking for it.
After the BBC documentary India’s Daughter went viral with Nirbhaya’s rapist saying, “A decent girl won’t roam around at 9 o’clock at night. … Housework and housekeeping is for girls, not roaming in discos and bars at night doing wrong things, wearing wrong clothes” and the defense lawyers saying, ?If my daughter or sister engaged in pre-marital activities and disgraced herself and allowed herself to lose face and character by doing such things, I would most certainly take this sort of sister or daughter to my farmhouse, and in front of my entire family, I would put petrol on her and set her alight,? this poster almost seems true doesn’t it? After all, this is Indian society!
