‘Arranged marriage’ are two words that set us in a panic mode, almost at the speed of light. Each time you hear it at home, you just wish to hide under a blanket and shut out the world because that is definitely better than spending it with a stranger. Centuries of horror stories post the arranged marriage scenario has just strengthened our beliefs.
But if you actually look at the concept, in a sane manner, it actually makes some sense (some, we said). You can be sure of the guy and the family you get married into rather than struggling and adjusting later on. But for a generation that grew up with SRK wooing Kajol, and Hrithik Roshan impressing Amisha Patel on a beach, we just cannot imagine life without the romance.
But at times, we are willing to take the plunge and check out the whole dressing up and serving strangers chai in your hall, and pretending that you know everything under the sun. It might not be great, but hey, sometimes you’ve got to go with the flow (and get mom to stop with the nagging).
This is precisely where Biba steps in and tries to rearrange the concept of arranged marriage. No longer ruled by the ‘man is always right’ mentality, this video brings in a sense of equality to the concept.
It might not be brilliantly executed, but in the jumble of ads that focus on how losing weight, picking the right toilet cleaner and having fair skin makes you successful, this ad stands out, with its heart in the right place.
We sure are hopeful for a 2016 where people are willing to step away from age-old beliefs, and embrace a new perspective. Good job Biba.
