For the longest time, Dilbert comics seemed like the last word in corporate humour. Not anymore. The next time I read a Dilbert comic strip, all that will keep coming back to me is that this is the man who said, “Our society is a matriarchy because men have to get permission for sex.”
In a blog post that is nothing short of incoherent, Adams compares the male-dominated societies of the Middle East with what he describes as “female-dominated countries” like the US.
In his mind, American men live in a matriarchal dystopia in which women decide when men can have sex and they have their every whim and fancy met, like er…temperature, holding doors open, etc.
“When we get home, access to sex is strictly controlled by the woman.”
Yeah, dude, because if it is without her permission, it is called rape. And it works both ways too, both partners consent, else it’s definitely rape. But I can see why you are upset about it, because if your views on women are anything to go by, then you must have a hard time getting any woman to consent to sex with you at all, Scott Adams!
Also, Adams wants everyone to know that when he talks over women in meetings, it’s not that he’s a sexist, it’s just that women talk too much.
“Women have made an issue of the fact that men talk over women in meetings. In my experience, that’s true. But for full context, I interrupt anyone who talks too long without adding enough value. If most of my victims turn out to be women, I am still assumed to be the problem in this situation, not the talkers.”
“The alternative interpretation of the situation – that women are more verbal than men – is never discussed as a contributing factor to interruptions. Can you imagine a situation where – on average – the people who talk the most do NOT get interrupted the most?”
Here’s a tip, Adams. Before you write, nay vomit on the Internet, check your facts – just Google them. It’s real easy-peasy. Your hypothesis has actually been repeatedly disproved, SCIENTIFICALLY. And I am surprised that somebody like you who claims to having a scientific bent of mind did not check up on this. In reality, men talk more than women in meetings, yet are more likely to interrupt women than women are to interrupt them.
It doesn’t end with that though. Adam goes on about how women are responsible for making men cold-blooded killers because we…hang onto your seats here….don’t hug them enough! This is like Hannibal and Winnie the Pooh rolled into one atrociously bad Youtube video (and that’s all it’s worth, really).
“So if you are wondering how men become cold-blooded killers, it isn’t religion that is doing it. If you put me in that situation, I can say with confidence I would sign up for suicide bomb duty. And I’m not even a believer. Men like hugging better than they like killing. But if you take away my access to hugging, I will probably start killing, just to feel something. I’m designed that way. I’m a normal boy. And I make no apology for it.”
But the most offensive of the lot is what he wrote in an earlier blog post, where he clearly thinks of women as second class citizens or something not even human. Ironically, although he talks about middle-east versus western societies, it is very evident that his thinking is similar to IS followers.
“The reality is that women are treated differently by society for exactly the same reason that children and the mentally handicapped are treated differently. It’s just easier this way for everyone. You don’t argue with a four-year old about why he shouldn’t eat candy for dinner. You don’t punch a mentally handicapped guy even if he punches you first. And you don’t argue when a women tells you she’s only making 80 cents to your dollar. It’s the path of least resistance. You save your energy for more important battles.”
Wow! This guy is actually saying that women’s concern for pay equity is a petty desire levied by an irrational group of people, and he’s also suggesting a very specific strategy for the men in the audience: Just don’t care.
“He creates two lists of things – stuff that’s unfair to men and stuff that’s unfair to women – declares them equal, then specifically tells men to cowboy up about their problems,” writes Laura Hudson in Comics Alliance. “Except that he’s comparing things like men getting served after women in restaurants to the fact that women get paid less for the same work as men.”
In 2011, in another post, he even justified rape mentality by arguing that laws on sexual assault go against men’s “natural desires”
“Society is organised in such a way that the natural instincts of men are shameful and criminal while the natural instincts of women are mostly legal and acceptable.”
And not an ounce of regret about his words whatsoever. In fact, after all the backlash over his blogs, he showed up on a feminist site to tell the commenters there that they are simply too emotional to understand what he was saying, and lack the reading comprehension skills of his regular readers.
JUST DIE DILBERT, DIE!
