We woke up to some great news today. The Indian tennis firebrand, Sania Mirza along with her grand slam partner and former world champion Martina Hingis together won their second Grand Slam title at the US Open Women’s Doubles.
This is some great news from the Swiss-Indian duo that has also been victorious previously at Wimbledon. They beat competitors Yaroslava Shvedova and Casey Dellacqua with a score of 6-3 6-3 to claim the first position proving that they truly make a power-packed team.
The 34-year-old Hingis is on a roll after winning five major double titles all in 2015, the most recent being her US Open mixed doubles title alongside ace Indian sportsman, Leander Paes. The former world number one singles player, Hingis has won a total of 14 grand slam doubles titles while Sania Mirza has five to her credit.
For 28-year-old Sania Mirza too, 2015 is proving to be a great year with immediate victories that are making her a force to reckon with.
Earlier this year Sania made history by winning the Women’s Doubles Wimbledon Championship 2015. She was also awarded the coveted Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award by the Indian Union Sports Ministry, which is the highest Indian honour given for achievements in the field of sports.
