A Delhi mom’s Monday morning was ruined when she was attacked by a policeman with a brick for not paying a bribe. The incident took place when the woman was on her way to drop her daughters to the school. Traffic constable Satish Chandra stopped the woman to allegedly check her driver’s license and other papers following which there was a brief verbal argument, which took a terrifying turn.
Speaking to Headlines Today, the woman Ramanjeet Kaur said she was travelling home after a PTA Meeting at her daughters’ school, when the cop pulled her over for crossing a red light.
“I said I didn’t cross any red light, but if I did, I’m sorry. Then he told me he will issue me a challan. He then asked me for my documents which I gave and later said I can pay Rs.200. I told him to issue me a challan. He said no. You can pay 200 and go. I said no, issue me a challan and only then I will pay. Or you can send the challan at home and then I will pay,” Kaur said.
The woman then says that this perhaps outraged the cop who then started abusing her and her daughter. “He held my hand and hit me. He even damaged my scooter, and he threw a brick on my back,” the woman alleged, adding that “I then stopped him and prevented him from going. The police then came and rescued us.”
While most often the police are just looking to make money and avoid giving bills, it’s really carrying it too far to injure a woman in the process. It’s good to know that the accused policeman has been suspended with immediate effect.
Senior Delhi Police officials have said that they will take strict action against him, adding that they regret the shameful act.
