In this day and age when seeing is believing, first impressions are the biggest deal clinchers. That’s why it’s important to dress and carry yourself like a lady. Being at your stylish best makes all the difference, but your body language too plays an equally important part in creating a good first impression. Take cue from these eight deal-clinching body language tips to ensure that everyone in the room remembers as the lady-like diva.

Be stylish: Being fashionable is a part of it, yes, but more than following fashion charts you need to dress comfortable. Picking a dress that lets you be at ease, rather than one that leaves you nervous, in turn translates into a confident demeanour.

Put on your best smile: Research says that people make snap judgments about whether you are a trustworthy person or not in 34 milliseconds of seeing you for the first time. So walk in with a smile, but be sure not to overdo it. Start with a slight smile and let it slowly get a little broader.

Master a firm handshake: A strong, firm handshake immediately creates an impression of you being a good-natured and friendly person. Be sure to keep it firm, with your palms touching rather than opting for a flimsy handshake.

Maintain eye contact: Looking at the person right into the eye while talking gives the impression that you are self-assured and know what you are talking about. When people are talking to you, be sure to keep your head held up and look directly at the person or in her direction. Looking around or simply staring down into your phone gives them the impression that you are insecure or lost.

Sit or stand with relaxed shoulders: Tension tends to weigh down your shoulders, invariably making you slouch. Since this is a universally recognised sign of nervousness, avoid it by deliberately loosening your shoulders and moving them back and slightly downwards.

Use your hands: Gesture to make a point or add value to your opinion. Use your hands confidently but avoid fidgeting. It’s best to keep your hands on the desk or by your sides. Be sure to not cross your arms against your chest as it indicates that you are either on the defensive or not interested in the conversation.

Portray confidence: Bring your hands in front of your chest while pressing your fingers together when you want to show self-assuredness. This is an indication of confidence and immediately gives out the impression that you know what you are talking about and mean business.

Pay attention to grooming: Before you walk in, pay special attention to your hair and make up. Your attire must project the exact image that you want to portray. Smartly put together attire along with perfectly practised body language will surely ensure that they don’t forget you in a hurry.
