Enter the lobby of JW Marriott, Sahar and you are greeted with a huge white space oozing a calm, which is rare in the bustling metropolis of Mumbai. The gold and white interior and the huge lobby set the mood for a relaxing afternoon ahead.
The sprawling lobby is broken down into cosy nooks and corners where you can settle in with a book and a cup of coffee or walk through to get a feel of the modern interiors infused with the traditional J W Marriott touch of simple and modern architecture.
We started the food review with a warm cup of coffee at JW Café, which is the perfect place to relax as you enjoy multiple food flavours from around the world. An open space that gives you glimpse into the lobby, our only complaint was the hustle and bustle. With kids running around, family chatter and group conversation, the place can be a bit too noisy. However, the food will leave no room for complaints.
From spicy specialties from the North to international fares from Japan, Thailand and Saudi Arabia and a bland yet tasty hint of America, there are enough options to pamper the foodie in you.
We started off with Ajwaini Paneer Tikka and Malai Broccoli, both of which managed to maintain the authentic taste of the North. The Lasooni Murg Tikka was perfectly cooked and the succulent flavour begs for a second helping. The Dalcha Kebab and Sarson wali Macchi came highly recommended but we limited it to a quick bite because an earlier glance at the dessert counter already had us drooling.
The Subz Dum Biryani came next along with Murg Makhani, both of which were perfectly flavoured adding to the traditional taste. Being big fans of Thai cuisine, we couldn’t stop ourselves from taking a quick helping of the Thai noodle soup. The subtle taste of coconut perfectly complemented the Thai spices, making the additional food indulgence totally worth it.
The dessert counter provided a meal in itself. From an entire waffle counter to delightful flavours of ice cream and cheesecake along with marshmallows dipped in chocolate sauce and a selection of gummy bears, the only regret was we had eaten too much earlier on.
Post a heavy meal, we headed over to the JW Spa. Our reservations of getting a spa treatment right after a heavy meal, were immediately put to rest. The JW special express massage chair, meant for the busy traveller who is taking a break between flights, allows you the comfort of getting a massage while seated.
Seat yourself in the chair, without any need to change into comfortable spa garments, and enjoy the 20-minute neck and hand massage. The soothing session, with calm music and perfect pressure is enough to put you in nap mode. The drawback; the hand massage lasted all of five seconds giving us no chance to enjoy it.
If you intend to take a break from a long work day, or step into JW for a break between multiple flights (it’s conveniently located right next to the airport), this is the perfect place. A good hearty meal, a wonderful massage and you are raring to go again.
