Narendra Modi’s Save Girl Child initiative has got a new lease of life thanks to a new social media campaign that he has undertaken.

Expressing his concern about the declining sex ratio in the country during a radio program, Mann Ki Baat, Modi urged fathers and daughters to take selfies together, and post them on Twitter with the hashtag #SelfieWithDaughter, to support and highlight the cause and empower girls in the country.

The response to it has been nothing short of extraordinary with fathers across the country taking selfies with their daughters and posting it on Twitter.

It is also indicative of how a social media tool, even when applied to a serious initiative like Beti Bachao Andolan, can really lift it up. Beti Bachao wasn’t quite making the right waves earlier. It was mostly considered to be a rural area problem and of little concern to our netizens and Twitterati.

But by using a social media tool like a selfie, and focusing on the father-daughter relationship, Modi has suddenly made the campaign a cool thing to root for.

Kudos to the PR or media team that came up with this concept. Meanwhile check out the selfie posts by happy fathers on Twitter, with a touching tagline to go with it. The PM has promised to retweet the best taglines among them.
