Do not clutter your walk-in wardrobe

We all love shopping for new clothes, don’t we? And a walk-in wardrobe is almost like a dream come true! A walk-in wardrobe is technically a closet which we can walk into. It is almost like a room that we transform into a wardrobe. Planning this pace right is vital or it would defeat the very purpose. And, aesthetics are as important as the functionality for the space. Here are some dos and don’ts of organising a walk-in wardrobe.

Dos

  • Ideally speaking, try and have the walk-in wardrobe located close to the bedroom and bathroom.
  • The clothes that are used more often may be placed more accessibly and conveniently, while the seasonal wear may be placed more remotely.
  • Have multiple drawers for your under garments (especially if you are a lingerie addict). Have segregated drawers for accessories like watches and other knick-knacks too.
  • You would also need a space for wallets and purses or handbags separately.
  • Try to colour rack your possessions (especially handbags) as this is how you’re gonna coordinate when you use them.
  • Keep an ottoman for sitting while changing clothes or while you shortlist what to wear.

Your walk-in wardrobe should feel happy & colourful.

Don’ts

  • Don’t position it in such a way that you have to walk through the wardrobe to the bathroom. If you do, you will then be forced to have shutters on them for security reasons. This is because in India, we have domestic help clean our bathrooms and therefore security may be of concern. Ideally, a walk-in wardrobe should have shutters on them, but the room is the door to the walk-in, otherwise how different is it from a store room!?
  • Do not clutter the space, keep it as clean as you would keep your living room.

Remember that your walk-in wardrobe should feel happy, and stylish! Enjoy the space and add some colour to it.
