We woke up today to the interesting Google doodle of mathematical genius Shakuntala Devi. Google marked Shakuntala’s 84th birthday with an animated doodle that features a calculator screen with her digital sketch. The doodle represents the ‘human computer’ title that Shakuntala has earned.
Shakuntala Devi was born in a humble family in Bangalore on November 4, 1929. Her father recognised her skills when she was three years old while playing a game of cards where she memorised all the cards and won the game.
By the time she was six, she became an expert in solving complex mental arithmetic. Shakuntala Devi even made it to the Guiness Book of World Records for her outstanding ability and calculating skills.
She wrote books such as Fun with Numbers, Astrology for You, Puzzle to Puzzle You, and Mathablit.
Shakuntala passed away at the age of 84 on April 21, 2013 due to a respiratory condition.
