They may not enjoy sharing screen space in a movie, but B-town actresses aren’t hesitating to come together for this one film, which supports women empowerment. Girl Rising is a critically acclaimed documentary by Oscar nominated director, Richard E. Robbins. It features eight stories of young women from around the world, who have used education to rise above and follow their dreams.
Priyanka Chopra and Freida Pinto have long been promoting this multi-level global campaign. And now, they’re all set to bring to us the Hindi version of this documentary, Girl Rising – Woh Padhegi Woh Udegi, featuring support from other B-Town actresses like Nandita Das, Madhuri Dixit, Sushmita Sen, Alia Bhatt, Parineeti Chopra and Kareena Kapoor, with the story being narrated by Amitabh Bachchan.
In a press statement, Priyanka said, “Woh Padegi, Woh Udegi, it’s what I’ve truly believed in and it’s a motto shared by every one of the amazing women who have joined me on this journey for Girl Rising. We’ve all come together to narrate real-life stories, which highlight the positive impact of education on young girls. We believe that storytelling is a powerful way to inspire people and also to empower them to take action”.
The documentary will be aired on Star Plus at 1.30 pm on August 29, 2015, on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, adding more meaning to this joyous occasion.
