Create a space that you can call your own.

Your first home is always a dream come true. And if you are a single woman (read: happily unmarried), then it’s gotta be built with some TLC. There are a lot of things that go into designing and creating a space you call your own. Here are some basic home design tips for you to get started with your dream first home.

Have a wishlist: Begin by listing out what all you would like to have in your space in order of priority as well as importance.

Check the floor plan: Next is the floor plan. I suggest you look at it not just as a space. You have to feel the height, the windows and all other attributes. If possible, take pictures of the space when you visit it for any reference later.

Get a rough sketch: I suggest avoid planning a space at the site. Create a sketch on paper and then go back and mark your layout for better judgement of space.

Create happy corners: Yes, as a single woman you need corners for your hobbies. A cozy nook for reading and listening to music are must. If you are an artist, then create an art corner close to a window.

Kitchen garden: If cooking is your passion and if you are lucky to have a small balcony or enclosure, then create a kitchen garden. Use small tin buckets to plant herbs. Sunlight is vital here.

Music room: Who doesn’t love music? After a busy day, unwind in your cozy music corner. Place an arm chair with an ottoman and a floor lamp beside your wall storage of books and curios.

Don’t wait for the ideal situation or a big home to make space for your passions. Begin now!
