As much as I love to have friends over for drinks, I hate the horrible ring marks left on my wooden table from all the glasses. Coasters are an easy answer but then I wanted to give them a fun party twist, so a quick DIY led me to these chalkboard coasters. Use them to mark your drinks or convert them into a party game. They make great gifts too! Here’s a four-step guide to making these super cute chalkboard coasters.
Making time: 15 minutes
Drying time: 1 to 2 hours depending on the weather
Here’s what you will need:
1. 4″x4″ tiles (will be available at any hardware store)
2. Chalkboard/Blackboard paint
3. Brush
4. Rubber stickers (use felt if you can’t find these).
5. Cello tape (to create patterns)
Method:
For any DIY involving paints, spread generous amount of newspaper to cover your workspace.
1. Clean tiles with wet fabric or nailpolish remover to remove any dust particles and apply cellotape to create pattern of your choice. (I chose a triangular pattern.)
2. Shake the bottle of paint before opening & dip brush to get a generous coat of paint. Apply in a single direction to cover the desired area. Let it dry for at least an hour while you grab a cup of coffee. Do not touch while it dries or you will leave fingerprints. Wait till the shine disappears and you have a matt looking surface.
3. Pull out the tape slowly and on the reverse side paste the rubber stickers on all corners. Now the coaster won’t scratch any surface or slip when you are trying to put a glass on it!
4. Voila! Your chalkboard coasters are ready for you to scribble sweet nothings.
