In the first of our two part series on DIY Home decor of we stressed on easy to execute decor solutions that could seriously raise the style quotient of your homes. In this part we will look at a few more ideas to brighten your home with a little creativity, a little ingenuity and a lot of DIY.

1) Painted plates: Almost every household has some bone China that has been unused for decades. Here’s a smart way to refurbish and repurpose those old plates. First of all clean the plates thoroughly. Secondly, stencil out creative designs onto card paper. Step three would be to use acrylic paint to transfer those designs onto the medium. Three easy steps for awesome new wall hangings, isn’t that cool?

2) Stump bar stools: Old wooden stumps can be turned into funky bar stools by simply mounting freshly upholstered cushions onto the top. Now you can unwind atop your own mushroom with a martini. There’s a thought to drink to.

3) Creative toy storage: Repurpose old cookie tins by painting them in bright candy colours and mounting them atop your kid’s room wall, for a cool toy bin cum display feature. Now that’s called having your cookie and eating it too.

4) Quick table art: An old white bone China plate, some decorative pebbles and an old string of pearls can come together rather classily to form a unique centrepiece for your living room coffee table. Simple, isn’t it?

5) DIY votive candlestands: Make a really unique showpiece with a shallow bottomed glass and a quick dry marker. Draw freehand patterns on the glass and place a tiny votive candle in it to class up your nightstand. Romance, anyone?

6) Superhero blankets: Here’s an alternate use for your old superhero tees. Cut them up and get them sewn into a blanket for your kids. This is one thing they will forever treasure.

7) Pop art: Use photoshop or any online photo editing software to create cool pop art portraits and other artworks. Then refurbish old frames to display your handiwork on your walls. Very Andy Warhol, wouldn’t you say?

8) Sound of music: If you love music, you’ll appreciate this idea. Old musical instruments can make great Wall hangings. Paint your old guitar or other musical instruments and use them to really add the musical vibe to the room.

9) The galleria effect: Staggering wall mounted shelves on different levels and displaying your curios on them will give your living room or bedroom a gallery like look and feel. Very high brow, very art nouveau.

10) Unleash the comic book geek: Old comic books are really good additions as wall art. Frame your old Marvel and DC comics and use them as modern art on your walls. Sure it’s geeky but right now it is very chic.

Transforming your home decor doesn’t need you to have deep pockets, it does however pay to have a vivid imagination and to be willing to simply spend a little time DIY-ing!
