When I first saw the ‘Parineeti Chopra Suffers a Wardrobe Malfunction at Manish’s Birthday Party’ headline I was seriously confused. I knew that she had worn a heart jumper – that was also earlier seen on Yaami Gautam and Alia Bhatt – paired with green pants and tan boots. I couldn’t imagine how that outfit could go wrong? Okay yes it was wrong on certain fashion levels but a jumper creating a malfunction was a bit too hard to digest.
Further reading revealed that Parineeti had posed for the shutterbugs, the lights of which made Pari’s jumper almost see-through. The Wardrobe Malfunction tag probably came from an overenthusiastic copy editor! Because seriously how can we term this as a wardrobe malfunction!?
For me this was just another attempt by the media to grab eyeballs and make the viewers click on the content. Let me be clear here. I am not sympathising with any actor nor am I here justifying their choice of clothes. My only point is that such incidents can happen with anyone, even me, and we need to draw a line between being reporters and celebrity-shaming vehicles.

Another instance that comes to my mind is Alia Bhatt and her infamous ramp walk. She was the showstopper of a famous brand and the moment she got off the ramp, the internet was flooded with rumours of how she gave her panties a miss! Seriously *eye roll* passing opinions just because you can’t see a panty line makes you the most lingerie-ignorant person ever (haven’t heard of seamless panties have you!) Sensationalising the term, wardrobe malfunction has become nothing but a way to garner page views and clicks.
Let us stop this whole celebrity-shaming spree that we are on. And I say we because I am equally responsible for clicking on that link and adding to the page views. A see-through blouse or a peeping bra strap or even an open zipper at times is very much a part of the fashion story. It happens to the best of us. I myself have seen so many regular people wearing such garments and I have ignored it rather than make any comments. After all fashion does give you the license to experiment, doesn’t it?
The point I would like to make it simple. The Page 3 section of the media needs to get a tad more responsible and we viewers need to stop lapping up such content and demand some sensible reporting!
