Badaun again. And the rapes were horrifyingly similar too. Like the case 11 months ago, where two minor girls, aged 14 and 15, were found hanging dead from a tree, this one also involved two minor girls, aged 12 and 13, cousins again.
The two minor girls were allegedly kidnapped and gang-raped at gunpoint by five people in Jareef Nagar area in Badaun in Uttar Pradesh.
Two of the accused, who were brothers, held the girls captive at gunpoint when they had ventured out of home for some work on the night of April 1, senior superintendent of Police Saumitra Yadav said, adding the girls were gang-raped.
Fortunately the Badaun case this year did not end in death like last time. The victims raised alarm and the accused were later nabbed by the villagers and then handed over to the police.
This seems pretty much like a cut and dried case. We only hope that this time the law enforcers have no excuse to go volte-face on their story and declare that this was something else besides what the girls allege. The previous Badaun case after all hasn’t gone so well with the CBI suddenly declaring five months later that it was suicide although the police continue to maintain that it was rape and murder. Hopefully, justice will be served.
