The year opened on a positive note for Aditya Tiwari, an Indore youth who fought back the old rigid authorities. Aditya wanted to adopt a toddler who suffers from Down syndrome and has a hole in his heart. After fighting for almost more than a year, Binney who is a one-and-a-half-year toddler was handed over to Aditya and the latter became the youngest single parent to adopt a special child.
Aditya Tiwari is 28 and he works for an MNC in Pune. Aditya has been trying to adopt Binney for almost a year. However, there were norms that didn’t allow single parents below the age of 30 to adopt children.
In August last year, the rules were changed and the age for adopting children was brought down to 25, yet it took several months to clear the paperwork before Aditya could adopt Binney.
Aditya thanked the Ministry of Women and Child Development (WCD) Minister Maneka Gandhi, who had visited Matrachhaya (the shelter for abandoned and homeless kids) on August 27 last year where she had instructed authorities to hand over the child to him in a week.
“Even after constant support and guidance from central and state WCD and Central Adoption Resource Authority (CARA) and State Adoption Resource Authority (SARA) officials, the adoption agency did not proactively support my case. This will deter single parents like me from adopting children who need a home unless the adoption agencies facilitate hassle-free adoptions,” Aditya said to TOI.
Nevertheless, this is great news for several young adults who would like to adopt children and give them a brighter future.
