The writers get to return their National and Sahitya Akademy Awards to the government to register their protest against the growing intolerance. How do the non-award winners register their protest? Celebrity stylist, activist and ex-Bigg Boss contestant, Sapna Bhavnani came up with the Aadhar Card Wapasi idea, which she has now turned into a movement.

“For days I’ve been watching our brilliant writers, filmmakers, historians, and scientists returning their prestigious awards in protest of the growing intolerance in India,” she wrote in a post on Facebook. “Since I do not have any awards I looked around to see what the government had given me that I could give up in their support. For days I looked. It took me a week, but I finally found the one thing that the government had given me that I could give up. The Aadhar Card!”

So if PM Modi asks his minions to carefully sift through his mail, he might find one small plastic white card in an envelope mailed by Sapna Bhavnani.

“The time has come to question and demand your right,” she wrote. “To stand in solidarity with the ones that are on the same path.I hereby give up my Aadhar card. I will post a collection point in Bandra in case others want to give it up too. I’m mailing it to the PM so he can see my face clearly with my address and all my details. So he can see I’m not afraid. I am not afraid.”

The Aadhar card as everybody knows is that identity card that the government has been urging us to all get and dubiously declaring that it could be that one card for all purposes that replaces a passport. (Like what? Eh?) But so far it’s just been gathering dust. And that’s the reason Sapna decided to use the Aadhar card as central to her wapasi movement.

“I also know that I could give up my passport or driving license but that would create problems in my mobility as a world citizen so I gave up the card that best reflected my government: USELESS!” she wrote.

Yes and for bots and net junta who might troll her about the aadhar card holding its place of pride under the Congress government, Sapna already has her reply pat in place.

“#AadharWapsi (This is a clarification for the Bhakts, I already know that the congress introduced the Aadhar card but this is a protest against the government not a party.)” (sic)
