Women power rules yet again. After 36 years, the Indian women hockey team is all set to participate in Rio 2016 Olympics. Following a 1-0 victory over Japan in the fifth-place playoff in the women Hockey World League Semifinals in Antwerp, on 5 July 2015, the Indian Hockey team ensured themselves a ticket to the Olympics.
The women’s hockey team was a part of the Moscow Olympics in 1980. Germany, Great Britain and China have secured the three Olympic berths from the World League Semifinals in Valencia and South Korea has already earned an Olympic slot by winning the Asian Games gold medal. And now the Indian women’s team has kept the Olympic dream alive by filling the fifth slot.
Poonam Rani Malik of the team tweeted post the win.
