The year has been promising for women in India – be it laws around maternity leave or the first lesbian ad being aired on Indian television. While 2015 did have various instances of positive news, it was balanced out by several cases of outrageous and bizarre news, as well. There were instances that took us back to ground zero. Although the government is constantly carrying our campaigns and initiatives to empower women, the irony is that many of our ministers have made sexist remarks about women. Not only politicians but several influential people in power have commented on women’s body and have been simply unapologetic. Here are some chauvinist comments about women, made by people in power. We hope they learn their lesson and leave their misogynist ideology in the new year.
