There might be more feminists in our country now as compared to last year and more claims of increased safety for women, but looks like nothing has changed. Our country is still very unsafe for women, they are still getting raped and molested, and the horror stories surfacing on a daily basis are just shuddering.
Such is the recent case of the 18-year-old girl who was raped by numerous men over a span of six months. Unable to sit or move, the girl is suffering from several injuries and diseases. A victim of human trafficking, she was abducted from West Bengal and taken to a lot of different places, where she was raped by numerous men. She has contracted septic arthritis, and has visible lacerations in and around her mouth consistent with gag wounds. The very thought makes me want to crawl into a hole and die.
“I have been taken to Rishikesh, Haridwar, Manali, Mangalore and many other locations and kept at someone’s place where people used to come and rape me. This happened for over six months and traffickers used to beat me up on refusal,” the girl said when asked by a leading daily. She was a part of many prostitution rackets and the men made money out of her.
She is fighting for her life, with her condition deteriorating in Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital in Delhi.
When will it stop? When will women be safe in our country? When?
