Internships are a great way to get a sense of corporate world and it’s functioning. There are some who are lucky to get an internship in their dream organizations and some who just may have to make-do with what’s available. Whatever be your situation, there are ground rules to follow as an intern. Here are some mistakes one should never make while serving as an intern.

1. Late Arrivals: Punctuality is considered as a virtue. Always be on time. Walking into office after your boss has arrived can get you in trouble.

2. Be on autopilot: Don’t be a robot or a machine that takes orders and do what is asked to do. Be proactive and show that you are interested in your work. Make notes and ask for feedback. Keep communicating with your boss and colleagues.

3. Work only for money: Don’t take money too seriously, not when you are working as an intern. This is a period for you to understand the corporate culture. Focus on learning and adapting.

4. Give your minimum: Your internship is an opportunity to ensure you perform well and eventually be able to turn it into a full-time job. Give your 100 per cent to all the tasks, which you undertake.

5. Get too close with co-workers: There is no room for gossip in internships. Keep yourself away from all office gossip. It can get you unwanted attention and can eventually harm your future prospects in the organisation.

6. Crib for benefits: You may not be eligible for benefits of a full-time employee. Hence, do not crib about holidays and stipends. It will make you feel negative about your job.

7. Not doing any research: Do your research thoroughly. A well-researched report reflects your dedication and hard work. It will definitely be appreciated by your boss.

8. Bad-mouthing about the company: Do not bad-mouth about your own company. They hired you, even when you did not have any experience. Being negative towards your own company labels you as a disloyal person.

9. Not Networking:
Take your internship as an opportunity to mould yourself and network with people in the industry. Connect with your colleagues and seek advice on the future and scope of your industry.

10. Leave your internship in middle: This is the worst! Never leave your internship in the middle of your contract. This will put you on the black list of the company.
