When you love your job, your job gives you back so much in return. And if you don’t, then here are habits that you can consciously form to perk up your work life. If even this doesn’t work, then it is high time you start thinking about a more satisfying profession!
1. Face your fear head-on
Finish the tasks that scare you the first thing in the morning, when you are raring to go. It will release the pent-up energy and make you feel better about yourself.
2. Let go of negativity
Instead of focusing on people or things that get your blood boiling at work, focus on things that make you smile. It will help you develop a positive attitude towards work.
3. Stick to your commitments
Stick to your timelines and promises. Staying committed at work disciplines you and in turn makes others take you seriously. You end up feeling happier and confident about your own abilities.
4. Be in gratitude
There is always something to be grateful for at work, the small things that make your day. The next time you are fretting about how your work sucks, the thankfulness will take the edge off the cynicism.
5. Take breaks
Don’t have a working lunch always. Breaks enhance your creativity and mood. Make the most of it-take a short stroll, chat up with your colleagues, laugh and just allow your tensed muscles to relax.
6. Don’t get glued to your computer screen
Give your eyes some rest and close them at regular intervals. Stretch and get off that chair.
7. Network and make friends
It’s a misnomer that colleagues need to be kept at one hand’s distance. Make friends at work, network and open up channels of learning.
8. Learn to say no
Are you hard-pressed for time as you are so busy saying yes to everyone? You don’t have to say yes for every office party, outing or additional favours that your colleagues ask of you. You have a right to say ‘no’ and choose what you want to do, with your time.
9. Larger vision
Keeping your mind on the larger goal about what would you want to do, two years from now, will fuel your enthusiasm. Ask yourself what your work brings to your table, to fulfill your bigger plan-aspiring to be the CEO of your current organisation or setting up your own venture. You can look forward to each day and enthuse it with a sense of purpose.
10. Be playful
You don’t have to take every reprimand by boss or bitchy remarks by colleagues personally. There will always be days when you will be called to question, but don’t let that get you down. Instead, innovate and creatively engage with your work to make it count.
