Actor-producer Tusshar Kapoor is among the very few single fathers to look up to in the tinsel town. The Golmaal actor welcomed his son, Laksshya Kapoor, via surrogacy in 2016. The 45-year-old actor-turned-author penned his six year-long journey of parenthood in his latest book Bachelor Dad which is all set to release in a few days.
Tusshar on breaking cultural norms and opting for single fatherhood

In an interview with the Press Trust Of India (PTI), Tusshar opened up about the many facets of embracing fatherhood and the challenges that came along.
He said, “A lot of people were curious about the medical aspects, even going into the idea of whether I should have adopted or just got married. People had their own notions. Nobody really reacted negatively. There was a lot of positivity, they were all supportive, but there were questions about how my journey will be. Which is why I have written this book, to give an honest account of my journey. I was nervous before taking the step of becoming a father.”

Elaborating on his inhibitions and thoughts, he said, “There were lots of questions that came to my mind as well. For example, if people will accept it positively? Will there be too much of a shock? Will there be a backlash in the media because I was breaking cultural norms? The book sheds light on all these queries and also chronicles how I decided to take the plunge and eventually found my true inner calling.”

The actor’s journey has been quite different owing to which his friends and colleagues prompted him to pen down his experiences of single fatherhood into a book. He told ETimes, “I felt, okay, let me present a different Tusshar to the world, the Tusshar who is not just an actor but a parent and writer as well.”

The journey indeed has been fun and fulfilling for the actor. “I have loved this journey to fatherhood. I won’t say there weren’t many challenges, but it has been great fun. Like, it took me quite some time to decide on which school should I admit him in. I took to these challenges like a fish takes to water. I was old enough to handle it. I wanted it at that part of my life. It has completed me. There is still a journey ahead, though. I hope I am doing it well,” he concluded.
Needless to say, Tusshar has set an exemplary example and is surely an inspiration to men who want to embrace the journey of single fatherhood.
