When you date someone who’s grown up in the same town as you, it’s a golden benefit you didn’t think could exist in a relationship…but it does and it’s wonderful. For all those of you who haven’t experienced it, you guys do not know what you’re missing out on. It is definitely a big  thumbs up. Here’s a few solid reasons why:

a) They know the context to different places

Imagine how you need to explain to your partner the smaller details about your hometown, your experiences growing up there, the places you frequent, the significance each place holds etc. That too, without boring them. However, when you date someone from the same town as you, it’s like talking to a long lost friend who you just never met before but they know exactly what you’re talking about. How wonderful does that sound?

b) You bond over the culture

Every place has its own quirks and eccentricities. Since growing up in any city in India means having to deal with 100 things, you could consider it a completely unique experience. However, that guy you date from the same city pretty much knows those quirks. So you end up bonding over Arsalan biryanis and Nizam rolls because both of you pretty much grew up hogging on them.

c) There’s always common friends

Dating someone from your hometown unlocks the golden opportunity of not only meeting other new people your partner knows from the same city but also there’s almost always common people involved. Like old batch mates, tuition buddies, gym friends? It’s like opening Pandora’s box but with a good ending.

d) You get to discover new things about the same town

Dating always brings a fresh perspective solely by the virtue of being with another individual. When you’re dating your homeboy, you get to discover new places, make new memories, find new meaning. The learning curve is so high, it’s amazing!

e) It is easier to feel the bond quicker

When you realize the intensity of being able to relate to someone, it is more likely to feel connected to them faster. Although it could be either a good thing or a bad one, the likelihood of it is very high.
