Binge-watchers (myself included) haven’t been able to stop discussing the Netflix Show “Indian Matchmaking”.
Did we love the show? Nope.
Did we hate the show? Not quite.
Were we hooked to the show? Absolutely!
The show’s protagonist and Mumbai based matchmaker Sima Taparia has become a household name after introducing us to the nitty-gritty of arranged weddings – she consults face readers, astrologers, life coaches and everything in between to find her client a match made in heaven.
So far so good, then what kick-started the memes? Well, Sima aunty finds most ambitious women “difficult to match” and readily blames everything on the fault in their stars. If her one-liners didn’t crack us up often enough on the show, our genius Twitterati have done the deed.
While the show made us question the crux of arranged marriages, the underlying patriarchy and the many shades of fairness that are involved, soon to be married couples agree to disagree.
