A match made in wrestling ring
Bajrang Punia and Sangeeta Phogat got married in a low-key ceremony in Phogat’s Haryana village in November of last year. Sangeeta is the youngest sister of wrestling siblings Geeta and Babita Phogat, on whose life the film Dangal was made.
Sangeeta and Bajrang met at a training camp and soon started dating. In a beautiful wedding teaser, Sangeeta spilled the beans on how an exchange of phone numbers culminated in a wedding proposal.

As the story goes, Bajrang shared his number with Sangeeta expecting her to message him. But Sangeeta did not, prompting Bajrang to ask her “why” when they met the next day: “Agle din ye mile to bole tune message kyu nahi kiya. To mai boli ki mai number bhool gayi. To inhone special baith ke number yaad karaya…”
As their conversations unfolded, Sangeeta asked Bajrang about his marriage plans. And the latter cheekily responded “Shaadi hogi to aapko zaroor bulayenge.” Sangeeta said Bajrang told her that he loves a girl but she doesn’t know yet. She then showed him pictures of a few girls and prodded him into sharing who the girl was, but Bajrang refused to say anything. And, one fine day, he left Sangeeta a text announcing his love for her.

Sangeeta also shared how the final proposal came through. Teasing him, she said, “WhatsApp pe hi propose kiya tha, aise koi specially propose nahi kiya.” However, we do believe that everything about this love story is special.
A love that reached the Olympic podium
Bajrang’s tweet sharing his win with his “better half” reminds us how some people stand by us like a rock, through thick and thin, supporting our every dream from behind the curtains. And they truly deserve our acknowledgement. So, watching our hero celebrate his wife’s contribution makes the tweet extra special.

Soon after Bajrang won the Olympic bronze medal, Sangeeta congratulated him with an inspiring tweet: “You are a champion and you shall remain one. All the moments we stayed apart you had promised me accomplishments… you kept your promise. Thank you. I know you were going to prove the haters wrong. I love you honey… I will be waiting for you @BajrangPunia”
Sangeeta herself is an accomplished wrestler and has won several championships and medals, including a silver at the Commonwealth Games. We wish them both more success in the future. They make our nation proud!
