Shilpa shared a video montage, featuring a series of selfies of her and Shamity, on Instagram. She wrote a long note in the caption, reflecting upon how their sister bond changed over time: “From sharing a box of chocolates, and NOT wanting to share clothes. From being each other’s agony aunts to pulling each other’s hair out. To… NOW becoming an inseparable pair.”

She further added, “I love you to the moon and back… HAPPPYYYYY BIRTHDAAAAYYYYY, my darling Tunki! Wishing you only all the choicest blessings the universe has to offer and great health above all.”

Shilpa’s reflection on how her bond with Shamita evolved as they grew older is extremely relatable for every desi sibling. Most of us will admit to having a love-hate relationship with our siblings as children. We fought like cats and dogs, whether it was over a TV remote, calling each other silly names, or simply because we were bored.

As someone with an elder brother of around the same age, I can’t recount the number of times we’ve had extreme and ugly physical fights as kids. But the best thing about sibling bonds is that no matter how much you fight, you know that at the end of the day, they are your biggest support and will always have your back.

Like the Shetty sisters, most desi sibling bonds strenthen as they grow older and more mature. At this point, we start to realise the significance of their role in our lives. Thus, we evolve from being each other’s arch nemesis to being an inseparable pair.
