Everyone hopes their current or next boyfriend will always be around. Physical proximity is one thing no couple wants to let go off but sometimes life throws curveballs. Unfortunately, not everyone is blessed with these near-perfect circumstances. To make do with whatever you have, despite a heavy heart, is quite possibly the only option left. When new feelings have to additionally adjust to the physical absence, there are a lot of things you have to deal with emotionally.

The hardships are most likely to include the following

1. Where is the honeymoon period?

Usually, your find new couples indulging in PDA, spending time on dates and sending cutesy good morning messages. For the unlucky bunch, the honeymoon period is restricted to 3,000 WhatsApps, periodic FaceTimes and a whole lot of phone calls. There is no caressing, no cuddling and definitely no kissing. It’s a tough, TOUGH situation especially when you’re dealt this hand right in the beginning. When couples go through LDRs later, they still have the physical intimacy to hold onto and a stronger foundation.

2. The money

We have to factor in the money required to keep the relationship going. When you’re new together, the cravings are WAY more but the salary remains fixed. You cannot just jump on the next flight no matter how much you want to. Even when you do make a concrete plan, it involves 7 stages of strategizing unlike the regular dates everyone else is used to.

3. Distance might make the heart grow fonder

Distance does make the heart fonder but sometimes the distance can create a wall as well. No, we aren’t referring to losing feelings for your partner but just missing them so much that you realize you cannot do anything is deflating. It can very often lead to some form of existentialism and you often catch yourself thinking: “What’s the point of this?’’ Hang in there, buddy.

4. The reunions are everything

Despite the distance, when you two do meet, it’s the only priority. All the love, the emotions and proximity makes up for the months of absence you’ve braved. It makes everything more worth it because ultimately, distance DOES make the heart grow fonder. That is, till the next time.
