We won’t deny that the lockdown has had us feeling all the feelings for quite some time now. We have been doing and saying things we usually wouldn’t because we are so very distanced from our reality because of the pandemic.
Going the extra mile for love and union; or is it sheer negligence?
But let’s set the record straight; we would never flout social distancing norms and step out of our houses without a necessary cause. Even if we do that we would never travel to another city in a truck, without a travel pass.
However, one particular man just wasn’t having it. An Indian man hailing from Himachal Pradesh’s Kullu district was eager to return to his hometown and solemnise his marriage with his Russian girlfriend. The duo couldn’t wait for the lockdown to lift or to even acquire a travel pass. So they devised a plan.
A fateful truck ride for the Indian man and his Russian girlfriend
The duo was traveling from Noida and had planned to go to Nirmand area in Kullu from where the boy hails. Enlisting the help of a truck driver, the two hid inside a truck going up to Shimla.
Unfortunately, the couple got caught at Shoghi while trying to enter the Shimla district on Wednesday. Shimla superintendent of police Omapati Jamwal told PTI, “A Russian woman and her Indian boyfriend were caught while trying to enter Himachal Pradesh’s Shimla district in a truck during the coronavirus-induced lockdown and imposition of curfew here.”
Informing the media of the couple’s intention for flouting the rules, Jamwal said, “They were coming from Noida after hiding themselves in the back of the truck without any curfew pass and both of them were planning to solemnise their marriage after reaching Nirmand.”
FIR has been lodged against the couple and their accomplices
The woman, her boyfriend, truck driver, and the cleaner were caught and a first information report (FIR) has been registered against them under various sections of the Indian Penal Code.
The woman has been quarantined at a center in Dhalli whereas the three men have been quarantined in Shoghi itself, the policeman reported. The woman is said to be in her thirties, while her boyfriend is in his twenties.
While the couple might have undergone such an adventurous journey for their love and union, they were caught merely 14-15 kilometers from their destination. Spending the days apart in quarantine facilities is definitely not how they might have planned to spend the next few days of their lives.
