The days are gone when a woman had to wait for a man to make the first move. It is the age of dating apps and if you are still waiting for a man you just matched with to just drop a “hi”, trust us, it will be boring.
There’s no doubt that starting a conversation yourself is awkward at first and feels cheesier than usual, sometimes even forced. But here’s the thing about taking the driving seat, it might feel like a bandaid was ripped at once, but then it all becomes normal. After all, your Bumble, Tinder and Hinge are for you to have fun and step out of the comfort zone–so use it to the optimum.
It is always best to have a great conversation starter at the back of your head for all times, even if you’re not supposed to. It is best if you start the conversation with questions because that leads to a proper response unlike just a hi. Here are some opening lines/questions to slide into a rolling conversation with the person on the app:
1. First thing that comes to your mind–cheese, pepperoni or Hawaiian?
Somethings should be clear from the get-go. You cannot be chatting up a person who likes pineapple on their pizza. Just kidding! Even though it is important, this question in no way is a tell-all. This however gets the ball rolling on why they chose the answer they chose, your choice of pizza, and maybe trying each others choices out together.
2. First 5 things you do in the morning?
Although this is a way of making sure if your partner is either a morning person or not, it also helps you understand their morning priorities. Are they a “check your phone on the potty” person or “get ready for some light cardio” person.
3. What would your parents say if they saw you on a dating app? (correct answers only)
This is interesting to know. You could tell them about your parents and they could about theirs. It is always fun to know what the parents might think of a situation.
4. What is the background image of your phone? You have 10 seconds to answer
The 10 second bracket means nothing, it just brings urgency in answer and you can follow it up with few more urgent questions like, “ Where did you take your best vacation ever?” and “Is Netflix the best invention or avocados?”
5. I am always so late I was sent back home a couple of times in school, you?
You’re not only slyly putting it out there that you’re a late-lateef, but you are getting it out of them too.
6. Which movie are you looking forward to?
This conversation will definitely lead to a date. You will get to know their choice and they might just ask you to accompany them. If not, you will end up asking them to accompany you.
7. Cornflakes or chocos?
It is important to know if they like the “goodness of two chappatis” early in the morning or an overdose of chocolate puffs in chocolate milk.
8. Name the different pasta shapes you know
They better know 15, but hey, even 6-7 would fit the bill! As long as they are not using the internet to impress you. It is not about them answering off the net, but just a fun conversation about how much they know.
9. What are you binge watching lately?
This is always a good thing to ask. Something they are binge watching is also definitely something they will passionately discuss about.
10. While sharing food, do you dig into the nice parts or let the other person have it?
While digging into a strawberry cheesecake ice-cream tub, do they go for all the chunky goodness or eat it in moderation. This will dictate the harmony maintained in the future of this prospective union.
