“Now every time people write about me, they mention I’m separated. I want to ask them to move on,” said Dia Mirza, in one of her recent interviews with Mumbai Mirror. Dia who made her comeback to the silver screen after six years with Sanju, will now be seen playing a strong character in Anubhav Sinha’s upcoming movie, Thappad

Dia married her longtime business partner, Sahil Sangha, in 2014 and announced her separation from him last year in August. Unfortunately, it’s been the talking point of her life since. She recently opened up about the emotional turmoil she’s been going through and how her parents’ divorce gave her all the strength to deal with her own.

Dia says, if she can handle her parents’ divorce at 4, why not hers at 37

Dia who also comes from a ‘broken’ family recalls her childhood days and how she handled her parents’ divorce when she was just four. She said, “My privilege as a celebrity doesn’t disallow me pain. I derived strength from my parents’ separation 34 years ago. I told myself that if I could handle it at four-and-a-half, there’s no reason why, at 37, I wouldn’t be able to. Men and women hesitate to make certain decisions because they’re afraid, you have to find the courage to believe that this too shall pass (sic).”

She further said, “I was allowed to take my adoptive father’s surname. My birth certificate has a different name. My passport has both my adoptive and biological father’s surnames. We are an inclusive society and don’t care about religion. It’s bizarre to paint everything with the same brush. I lost my biological father at nine, but up until then, we celebrated Christmas and Easter too (sic).”

Dia on how meditation is helping her to get through the pain

Dia is a strong believer in meditation and loves to be amidst nature. Anyone who follows her on Instagram would know this. Dia said, “I vent, then return to my serene self. I’ve been meditating for 14 years and my mornings are spent in the building garden. Even my home is full of lush greenery, with birds and bees visiting. Otherwise, the city gets to you—so many angry people around, including the media (sic).”
