Dating requires effort –and a lot of money. Sometimes you save up for a special day because it needs to be celebrated and then there are days where you just want to have fun, sans the truckloads of cash. It’s an inevitable part of living from cheque to cheque.

When you reach that point, all the indoor date ideas start making sense. You can do fun things that don’t require much money and the 3 hours it takes to get ready for a fancy date. If you’re looking to get some inspiration for your next date with bae, here are a few fun things you can do at home that are perfect for low-budget folks like us.

Get your board games out, get some wine and food–you’re sorted for the evening. Plus it’ll never get competitive because he’ll always let you win or you’ll win because you’re a badass nonetheless. You could do Scrabble or Monopoly or both–whichever you guys mutually agree on. (Read: mutually, not individually control freak)

2. Cooking competition

This one is for the foodies out there. Why spend money on take out when you can do it yourself? Whipping up some delicious cookies together or maybe some pasta is always more fun than staring at Zomato for 3 hours and having your 47th argument about where to order from.

3. Netflix and chill

Everyone has to love Netflix and chilling–especially if it is with babe because that also means some great cuddling, maybe sex and a great show to binge-watch. The holy trinity of fun things in the millennial world.

Wonder why the bros are always hanging with your man? It’s because he plays more video games than you can imagine– and you need to get on that game. An indoor date is a perfect opportunity to learn the Call of Duty with him beside teaching you the ropes. Who knows, you might even end up beating him!

5. Puzzles

This one is for all the people who have ample amounts of patience. Get one of those 1000-piece puzzles, some wine because everything is better with alcohol and spend some quality time chilling with bae. It’s also creatively satisfying to finish those puzzles.

6. Learn some Salsa from the internet

Get on YouTube and pick up a skill– a dance or anything that makes you feel productive. Salsa classes are free online and you have your partner waiting, so be that silly couple and do it.

7. Karaoke the night away

Get out the makeshift mics, turn on some John Mayer and rock it out together. It’s so satisfying to be able to sing loudly outside of the washroom and not being judged–you’ll realize the fun of it especially when there are 2 of you.

8. Strip poker

Get your sexy time on with a twist. Strip poker can be the best stress-buster for couples who have been together for a while and for couples who know how to play poker. (LOL) It’s competitive but just the right kind.
