In the ever-expanding digital realm, destiny sometimes takes a virtual form, weaving connections in unexpected ways. For Sanam Choudhury and Aneez Saikia, a chance Facebook encounter developed into a deep and meaningful connection, proving that love knows no bounds.

It all began with an ordinary Facebook comment, but destiny had laid the groundwork a year prior. A chance discovery of a profile led to a 30-minute-long stalking session. “So one day, I found this girl randomly on Facebook. She just popped up on my screen and I ended up stalking her for 30 minutes straight,” shares Sanam. She had her fears since there were no mutual friends, but despite that, she sent a friend request. To her delight, it was accepted.

A haircut, a comment, and a love story

Sanam tells us, “I never dared to text her but I used to stalk her daily. A year passed by. In that year, I decided to fully embrace myself for who I was and decided to give myself a new haircut, chopping off my long hair. This was transformative in many ways as I posted the new look on Facebook and she (Aneez), surprisingly, commented on that (though it was one week later). I wanted to reply to her immediately but I held myself back for six long minutes!”

The exchange of messages began and conversations deepened to form a meaningful connection. A well-planned excuse to celebrate a sister’s birthday provided the perfect opportunity for the first date at a cafe. “She was a bit late that day. I thought she was not going to come but after some more waiting, she did arrive. That’s when I started breathing again,” added Sanam.

A bond that sees no distance

The two did have their share of ups and downs, including a long-distance relationship that only made their belief in one another stronger. Their connection was so strong that it made everything worth it. Luckily, the parents were supportive but needed some education about LGBTQIA+.

“The bond with my partner is more like that of best friends; we fight, we cry, we laugh. We do every hilariously unbelievable thing together; we do everything together that we’re scared to do alone. Our bond is indescribable, I feel, as we understand each other at the highest level.”

The relationship is a testament to the courage of embracing one’s true self, the serendipity of chance encounters, and the enduring power of love, proving that sometimes, the most meaningful connections emerge from the unlikeliest of places.

Sanam shares, “We have a community organization in Assam named @Xomonnoy. Anyone who wants to reach out regarding any LGBTQIA+-related issue can reach us. And also, don’t forget to watch Rainbow Rishta on Amazon Prime, a docuseries which is about queer people’s lives through the real lens!”
