But, like with any good relationship, theirs also took work. Divyanka spoke about that on the reality TV show, Swayamvar: Mika Di Vohti, revealing how to overcome difficulties in a relationship.

What Divyanka said about navigating possessiveness in a relationship

Divyanka came on the show as a sister figure to Mika and gave the contestants some relationship advice. When a contestant asked her about how to curb one’s possessive nature, she revealed how she navigated similar issues in her own relationship.

She said, “Agar Vivek ghar nahi aaye waqt par wapas, toh mujhe tension honey lagti hai. Boys ke saath party pe gaye hain, toh mujhe tension hone lagti ki, ‘Bola tha 12 ka, 1 baj gaya, 1:30 baj gaya.’ Toh main fir har 15 minute mein phone kar rahi hoti thi: ‘Aap theek toh ho?’ Toh aisa do baar hua, teen baar hua. Mere hisaab se toh main care kar rahi thi kyunki mujhe chinta ho rahi thi. Par pata hai Vivek ne aake kya poocha? ‘Tumhe mujh pe shaq hai kya?’ I was like, ‘Nahi!’ ‘Toh tum baar-baar kyun phone karti ho?’ Maine kaha, ‘Arrey mujhe tension ho rahi hoti hai.’ Ismein important baat kya hai yaad rakhne ki? Ki humne conversation kiya. (If Vivek wouldn’t come home on time, I would get stressed. If he was partying with the boys, I’d get worried that ‘He’d said he’d be back by 12, but it’s 1, 1:30.’ So I would call him every 15 minutes: ‘Are you okay?’ This happened twice, thrice. In my head, I cared about him and was worried. But you know what Vivek asked me when he came back? ‘Do you not trust me?’ I was like, ‘No!’ ‘So why do you call me so much?’ I said, ‘I was worried about you.’ What is the important thing here? That we had a conversation).”

Why Divyanka’s experience is important to note

A lot of the time in a relationship, we do certain things from a place of love, which might seem bothersome to our partners. Be it calling too often because you’re worried, like Divyanka was, or being very protective of a partner to the point of not giving them their freedom. Despite coming from a good place, such actions can put strain on a relationship.

Dealing with such situations openly, by talking about it in a calm and civilised manner, is key for giving both parties some perspective on why the other person is acting a certain way. So, no matter what is bothering you in a relationship, communicating with your partner can heal several wounds.
