After this, no non-engineer will be able to say that engineers have no life. The popular stereotype sees them as “desperate” individuals looking to land a partner because through their growing up years they were reclusive and all about books and dream degrees. Well this couple did not just find each other during their tough college days but ended up getting engaged on the bridge they worked on together.

Who knew the sweat and blood at work would be the foundation of their relationship

Well, even for the couple this wasn’t planned from the beginning. Civil engineer Juila Kallmerten would have never imagined that she would get engaged to her boyfriend Dan Del Tufo, a fellow civil engineer, on a bridge they had worked on together. The couple, who met in university, were part of the Memorial Bridge project in New Hampshire.

Pictures of the grand, well thought out proposal were shared by the University of New Hampshire, where the two studied. The post was captions, “Memorial Bridge will always be a special place for Dan Del Tufo and Juila Kallmerten (both #UNH15) who met while they were engineering students at #UNH. The two #UNHalumni worked on The Living Bridge project and got engaged there last Saturday while it was elevated!”

The preps for the big day were cute too!

Hats off to Tufo for going the extra mile to make his proposal extra special. He had reached out to the New Hampshire Department of Transportation and requested the authorities if they could temporarily block the bridge for his proposal.

Speaking to a local daily, Eileen Meaney, communications officer for the New Hampshire Department of Transportation said, “This is not something we typically do, but through the description of the work they did at UNH and the work that (Julia) has done, DOT approved the request as long it could be tied to normal bridge maintenance operations…They were super cute, and we wish them the best”

More details about the proposal

This is not the only cute thing about the proposal! Tufo caught Kallmerten off-guard and went down on one knee and popped the question. The story doesn’t end here, he matched the proposal to the point where the bridge was raised to its highest point.

Tufo asked, “Honey, I want you to aggravate me for the rest of my life– Will you marry me?”

She said yes! And that is one beautiful start to an entire life together.
