First of all, Happy Birthday Boney Kapoor! The elder brother of Anil Kapoor has spent most of his life behind the camera, but his love story with late veteran actress Sridevi has always been the biggest highlight of his life. On his 65th birthday, we glance back at that episode in his life.

Boney was a married man with two kids and it was definitely not easy for him to confess to his first wife Mona Kapoor about his admiration for then Bollywood’s reigning beauty queen.
Earlier during the India Today Woman Summit 2013, Boney said, “Sri was the highest-paid actor, among the females. I knew she had done a film for around Rs 8-8.5 lakh, and probably, this was her mother’s way of negotiating. I heard her figure and I said ‘No, I’ll pay Rs 11 lakh.’ She thought I was a mad producer from Bombay who is offering more than what she asked for! Well, that’s how I got close to her mother (sic).”

It didn’t take much time for Boney to fall head over heels in love with Sridevi. So much so that during the shoot of Mr. India, Boney made sure he provided her with the best of everything. From getting her the best make-up room to the best costumes, he made sure his heroine was comfortable on the set. Stressing how he couldn’t hold himself back from falling for Sridevi and confessed to his wife, he said, “In fact, I had confessed to my ex-wife that I’m in love with her. I couldn’t hold myself back (sic).”
In fact, he even followed her to Switzerland, where she was shooting for Chandni. Talking about that incident, Boney recounts, “She saw that this man is too persistent and perhaps realised that I was sincere and not looking for a fling. Somehow, things fell in place (sic).”
It was then that Boney decided to leave his first wife and kids, Arjun and Anshula. Perhaps the reason why the actress was also accused of being a home-wrecker. They did have their own share of struggles, however, nothing stopped the duo from being together. After dating for seven years, in 1996 the duo got married in a simple temple wedding, and led a blissful married life.

Last year, on Sridevi’s 55th birth anniversary, Boney shared an emotional note about the irreplaceable void. He said, “Today this vacuum, this void cannot be replaced but the good wishes and the goodwill that she has left behind is something that we can live with… She is with me, in my memories… with my children. I feel the loss of her every second of my life, not just me, even my children do. This is something that we have to live with. Unfortunately, she was snatched away from us sooner than anybody expected (sic).”
