7 Nicknames We’ve All Been Called At Some Point Even If They’re Damn Cringey

You know this is one of those situations where you start off using ‘bro’ to make fun of all the people who use it casually and then get trapped into the cycle of not being able to leave it out of your everyday vocabulary. These nicknames are exactly like that. You see them in the captions of those mushy couples you hate on Instagram but then when finally someone comes along and calls you any one of those, and you secretly don’t cringe anymore.

Although this change in emotion might be completely situational, we wanted to remind you that at one time, you hated being called these names, or are back to hating on them as a newly single person. Whatever the case may be, we’ve listed down seven cringe-worthy nicknames couples use for each other. Feel free to add your own!

1. Babe/Baby

These two are interchangeably used. Mostly we hate on it because no one in their normal, everyday language uses the term unless they’re referring to a single loved one. We’re usually never in that situation but if we are, then bring on the ‘baby’ shower and we’re down for it. Also, this is probably the least on the cringe meter.

2. Shona

There was a whole song in Ta Ra Rum Pum on shona. Anyway, the term literally translates to ‘sweet’ in Bangla but a lot of people don’t find the term as endearing. Of course, this also depends on how frequently the nickname is used.

3. Cutiepie/babypie/basically anything pie

Again, one of those one-off endearing statements. This one should be used sparingly because if it is your consistent nickname, it can get a bit exhausting.

4. Bae

This one is for all the Instagram couples. There has to be one mention of the term either in the caption or in the hashtags because which couple post is complete without it?

5. Honey/Honeybun

Honey has a more elderly tone attached to it but if it floats your boat, then you do you boo!

6. Babu/ Babushona

The cringe factor for this doesn’t exist. You cannot be calling or letting yourself be called babu or babushona in public. In private, too but if that’s the case, we can still reconsider.

7) Boo-boo

This is the English equivalent of babu and babushona. If your name on your significant other’s phone is this, we’re sure you still put up collages on Instagram. Not sure you want to be there!
