Love doesn’t always have to be portrayed onscreen in life-altering, grand gestures. Sometimes all you need to show is one look, one touch and the audience understands. Indian web series have mastered the art of portraying love realistically; one very important difference between digital content and mainstream Bollywood.
So we decided to give a shoutout to all those onscreen relationships that were depicted with subtle nuance yet impacted us. Some of them are unconventional and we’re rooting for each one of them.
1. Ganesh Gaitonde and Cuckoo, ‘Sacred Games’
No matter how savage Ganesh was in his work, he was in love with Cuckoo with his whole heart. He never cared about where she came from, who she was before he was with her or where she would go after him, he only cared about the time he was with Cuckoo. Made you think even Gaitonde had a heart somewhere.
2. Kavya and Dhruv, ‘Little Things’
The story of an adorable young couple trying out the living-in life and dealing with everyday issues, is a refreshing watch for all couples and die-hard romantics. Not only are Kavya and Dhruv relatable as characters, their relationship is also enjoyable to watch onscreen.
3.Tanya and Mikesh, ‘Permanent Roommates’
The fact that despite being in a long-distance relationship for 3 years, Tanya still had her initial hesitation about living together, and creating a life with Mikesh, speaks volumes about modern day relationships. It’s the adjustment, the commitment and the dedication that makes the show a worthy watch.
4. Akarsh and Alia, ‘Out of Love’
Many people might contest this but it did seem like Akarsh was dedicated to the much-younger Alia. Even when faced with the consequence of leaving his wife and his business projects, he chose to move away and raise his unborn child with her. #CommittmentTohDekho. Now, he was very toxic, we don’t deny that.
5. Mann and Saeeda, ‘A Suitable Boy’
Although we were initially convinced it was infatuation, by the end of the short-series, you’re thinking otherwise. Mann was always protective of Saeeda, right from the very moment he laid eyes on her and wasted half his life, simply ensuring he was always around her.
6. Cheeni and the chai-walla, ‘Paatal Lok’
This one was the subtlest one yet. If you’ve watched the show, you’d know exactly what we’re talking about when we say unspoken stares, an underlying fondness and a fierce level of protection.
