In an industry where avoiding exes is impossible, calling out former lovers for causing relationship woes is quite commonplace. From spilling the tea on primetime television to filing molestation charges, our Bollywood celebs have handled breakups in interesting ways.
1. Sajid Khan and Jacqueline Fernandez
The couple broke up in 2013, although they were supposed to tie the knot. In an interview, he was quoted saying, “While we broke up in May 2013, in reality, right from December 2012 it started becoming sour. When you don’t have a woman in your life, you don’t have someone constantly nagging you, so you end up working better and are more focused. I went for a holiday with her for five days in the middle of making Himmatwala and felt so bad when the film didn’t do well. For Humshakals, I did not take a single holiday.”
2. Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh
After their marriage ended in divorce after 13 years, Saif was the first one to break his silence. In an interview back in 2005, the Tashan star had said, “It isn’t nice to be constantly reminded of how worthless you are and to have taunts, jeers, and abuses thrown at your mother and sister all the time. I’ve gone through all of it.”
3. Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor
On different occasions after his breakup with Bebo, when asked about working with her, Shahid responded, “If my director wants me to work with a cow, or a buffalo, as an actor—I’m ready to do it.”. He even added, “I blame it on my being a good boyfriend. I was in a four-and-a-half year old relationship and very committed. Now, I have learnt better. And I shall not be the most wonderful boyfriend.” He also once said: “My most successful film Jab We Met came when Kareena and I had broken up. I can only see it from a practical point of view. And I feel that some choices didn’t work for me.”
4. Aishwarya Rai and Salman Khan
The relationship sounded toxic AF when Aish came forward in an interview and said, “After we broke up, he would call me and talk rubbish. He also suspected me of having affairs with my co-stars. I was linked up with everyone, from Abhishek Bachchan to Shahrukh Khan. There were times when Salman got physical with me, luckily without leaving any marks. And I would go to work as if nothing had happened”. She even added, “I stood by him enduring his alcoholic misbehaviour in its worst phases and in turn, I was at the receiving end of his abuse (verbal, physical and emotional), infidelity and indignity. That is why like any other self-respecting woman, I ended my relationship with him.”
5. Akshay Kumar and Shilpa Shetty
Although the duo were supposed to get hitched, when the relationship ended, Shilpa came out and said the following, “Akshay Kumar used me and conveniently dropped me after he found someone else. The only person I was upset with was him. But I’m sure he’ll get it all back. It’s not easy to forget the past so soon, but I’m glad I’ve had the strength to move on.”
6. Kangana Ranaut and Hrithik Roshan
While this one became national news with Kangana taking aim at Hrithik on Aap Ki Adalat, several statements have been made from both sides. Kangana initially shared, “Yes, many lame rumours are doing rounds, anyone can tell where these rumours are coming from. I don’t know why exes do silly things to get your attention. For me, that chapter is over and I don’t dig graves.” Then Hrithik tweeted the following:
