A big shout-out to all the wonderful mothers-in-law who have been a rock to their daughters-in-law during pregnancy. It’s overwhelming and perhaps the most challenging phase in a woman’s life. It’s a roller coaster of emotions. Hence, it needs extra care, love, and support to overcome anxiety and stay physically and emotionally fit. And a caring MIL makes sure she helps her pregnant daughter-in-law in every possible way to make her feel at ease. In fact, it’s a great time for them to strengthen their bond with some of the most beautiful moments ever.

From making those mandatory gond ke laddu, to ensuring she gets some good sound sleep, a  thoughtful mother-in-law plays a major role in her daughter-in-law’s transition to motherhood.

1. Cooks her favourite dish

A mother-in-law who cares about their bahu’s food preferences during pregnancy is for keeps. Eating healthy nutrients in order to deliver a healthy baby is of utmost importance, and a responsible MIL ensures just that. As basic as it may read, if she keeps a check on her diet, feeds her healthy meals, and satisfies her pregnancy cravings at odd hours, she’s a blessing. The best part? She does it all with a smile without any complaints.

2. Doesn’t let her do the chores

A kind and generous sasu ma is a rare find. A considerate MIL never burdens her daughter-in-law with domestic chores and keeps her away from any physical strain or hassle. Even after the delivery, a thoughtful MIL will help in domestic chores and errands. This lets the new mommy spend more time with her newborn and bond better.

3. Shares anecdotes that help to ease anxiety

Moms have their own share of experiences and that counts. What they have learned over the years help daughters to navigate their months of pregnancy. It eases out anxiety and gives them insights into the world of motherhood. Positive and inspiring anecdotes help them to deal with their fear and anxiety with a calm and relaxed mind.

4. Prioritizes health above all

Sleep is difficult during the months of pregnancy due to nausea. And sleep deprivation during pregnancy further leads to fatigue. Therefore, having a mother around the time of pregnancy is a blessing. She lets the daughter take her time to get up in the morning without disrupting her sleep cycle and prioritizes her health above all.

5. She’s practical and doesn’t believe in the age-old myths

A practical mom doesn’t believe in the age-old myths and norms of overfeeding a pregnant lady. “Ab toh tumhe do logon ka khana khana padega beta!”–is not her mantra. She’s well aware that overfeeding will only lead to weight gain. She is always well updated about the latest pregnancy food trends and strictly sticks to what the doctor recommends.
