Aging scares a lot of people. For some, it has to do with the way they look and for others it means more responsibility, having to rely on others to get things done and so on. When it comes to actors and other known personalities, it’s no secret that when you’re in the entertainment business, most of the time, your face is your fortune. It’s no wonder why so many in the industry undergo surgeries, get fillers, botox and what not, just to prevent themselves from looking older on screen. But let’s face it, it’s a natural process and no matter what you do and how many millions you spend on “rectifying” and “enhancing” certain features, there’s only so much and so long you can do it.
The misconception that only youthfulness is beautiful needs to end. A person at whatever age can look beautiful, and a lot of that comes from believing yourself, that a wrinkle here or sag there doesn’t define you. Altering yourself just so you can fit into someone else’s idea of what beautiful is makes no sense. Let’s look at Hollywood star Cameron Diaz for instance. During a talk show discussion about aging, the 46-year-old actress said that the concept of “anti-aging” infuriates her. “We don’t honour the journey and who we are and how much we have to offer. It’s almost as if we have failed if we don’t remain 25 for the rest of our lives. Like we are failures … Oh, I’m sorry, I apologize, I wasn’t able to defy nature,” she said.
Jennifer Aniston, during an interview with a leading American daily once said, “I’ve had more fun post-40 than I can remember. From a work point of view, a physical point of view, a psycho therapeutic point of view.”
Kareena Kapoor Khan has also addressed the issue several times, going on record to speak her mind. Easily among the top five highest paid actresses in India, Bebo revealed that she’s not afraid of hitting the big 40 – an age that is usually considered the end of a heroine’s career.
“What’s wrong in telling people your age? I think one should age gracefully. I am proud to be whatever age I am and I think ageing is wonderful. I hate it when I look at somebody and know that they have tried to cover the lines. I don’t want to be an 18-year-old or a 22-year-old. I am just done with that phase of my life. With getting older you get so much wiser and stronger in every aspect. That’s why I don’t even try to be or look 22,” said the actress.
Well, if that’s not food for thought, what is?
