Suhana Khan has deleted her latest Instagram post and restricted the comments section on her public profile. The star kid had shared a stunning picture of herself from a dinner outing in New York on Monday. While she hasn’t shared the reason behind deleting the post, Suhana has been quite open about online trolling and the hate that comes her way, thanks to her dusky skin and her star kid status. Here’s the now-deleted post:

Suhana was all glammed up for the outing in a black top and shelled out some major makeup inspiration. Her bestie Navya Naveli Nanda, Alia Chhiba and other friends soon flooded her comments section with compliments. However, the post is no longer visible on her profile. The star kid, who has been subjected to online abuse and trolling time and again, hasn’t shared the reason for deleting the post. But the fact that she had to limit the comments section says it all.

It’s insane how much hate a 20 year old has to endure just for being on Instagram and posting pictures of herself like any girl her age. In the past, trolls have gone as far as calling her ‘kali chudail’ and ‘ugly’, throwing light on our messed up idea of beauty. Suhana once bravely called out India’s fetish with fair skin and was hailed for her post on colourism. It’s true that her father, Shah Rukh Khan, himself promoted fairness creams in the past but why should we hold her accountable for her father’s choices? Isn’t she, as an individual, entitled to have her own opinion?
Social media can be a scary space for celebrities
In February, Anurag Kashyap’s daughter, Aaliyah Kashyap had shared an agonising note on receiving rape threats for posing in lingerie. She said she considered deleting her Instagram as it was the most frightened she had ever felt.

Aaliyah is only 20, but the vile comments she received on her post were beyond disgusting. This is not something the women of our country are unfamiliar with. It’s almost every day that we see a woman being attacked online for simply being herself, not just by men but other women.
Social media can sometimes become a really scary space, especially for celebrities, who’re under a constant watch of not just their fans but anonymous haters.

On his birthday in March, Aamir Khan decided to go off social media and shared, “Hey guys, thank you so much for all the love and warmth on my birthday. My heart is full. In other news, this is going to be my last post on social media. Considering that I am SO active anyway I have decided to drop the pretence. We will continue to communicate as we did before. In addition, AKP has created its official channel! So future updates on me and my films can be found there. Here’s the official handle! @akppl_official. Lots of love, always, a.”

Last year, Sushant Singh Rajput’s death sparked the nepotism debate, and ‘star kids’ were at the receiving end of extreme backlash. Sonam Kapoor and Sonakshi Sinha disabled their comments section after being inundated by death threats and vile comments. Even Ananya Panday, Alia Bhatt and Athiya shetty had to turn off their comments section.
