Lakme Fashion Week Summer Resort 2016 is here. While we all are super excited and can’t wait to attend one show after another, we are looking forward to the opening show by none other than the crowned prince of design in Bollywood, Manish Malhotra. In a conversation with us, the designer opens up about his latest collection and his favourite showstoppers as well.
What is your inspiration for this collection?
This season I will present my Spring/Summer Haute Couture Collection, Elements, in association with LYF at the Lakme Fashion Week. My inspiration for Elements comes from nature. The dichotomy of beauty and power present in the four elements – Earth, Water, Wind and Flame, is much like the play of confidence and demureness; tradition and glamour that we see in a contemporary bride.
What is your design entity?
Our rich Indian tradition is a treasure trove of details that can still be emulated for modern lifestyles. My design entity involves a combination of innovation, flair and global influences.
What silhouettes are prominent in this collection?
The collection is Spring/Summer Haute Couture. So, it has a lot of emphasis on easy cuts and styles. This is my 11th year and the collection is glamorous and has global influences. The collection is all about festive celebrations and summer weddings. This season you will see it in our richly embellished gowns, lehengas with trails, breezy jumpsuits and structured tops and blouses. Each outfit presents a dreamy allure. Sharp, asymmetrical, architectural cuts and floral detailing add a touch of edge to the collection.
Which trends do you think are prominent this season? How is this collection different from your previous collections?
This upcoming season in Indian wear will see a lot of juxtapositioning of aesthetic and essence along with global and modern influences in the form of cuts and styles.
Who is your favourite showstopper?
I have been in this industry for the past 11 years and I have had the opportunity to work with a lot of beautiful models and actresses. I enjoy working with everyone. I think they all are just about wonderful.
